Gooooo GREEN!!!!
Green vegetables are generally low in calories — there are some that are higher like avocado but for the most part they are low. They are usually rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals or plant chemicals. All of these ingredients helps to maintain a good quality of health and they are needed for good health.
They cut down eating time because of the time it takes to eat them — this helps us not to overeat.
They are generally low to moderate source of fat — again — unless it is an avocado. Avocados are higher in fat than most vegetables but the type of fat is beneficial to our bodies. The low fat profile helps our intake to fall within recommended guidelines for fat. Green vegetables are also low in simple sugars.
Studies have shown that by consuming 5 servings of fruits and vegetables or more, individuals can cut their risk of some cancers in half. Fruit and vegetable consumption is also associated with a reduction in other chronic diseases and obesity.
